This is what JP had to say about this fashion shoot:

This fashion story plays on the bloody past of South Africa and highlights the new society that came into being after the country became a democracy in 1994. The title, The 33rd Ray, refers to the architectural feature of the Voortrekker monument, where sunlight passes through an opening of the roof on the 16th of December each year. This ray of light adds to the 32 symbolic rays that can be seen on the surface of the ground floor. Symbolically, the architect Moerdijk intended for the 33rd ray of sunlight that shines down on the stone in the midst of the abyss to publicly highlight the creation of a new civilization in Africa. In this fashion story the model represents the 33rd ray, signifying the new democracy of South Africa.
