Tokyo-bred and London-raised fashion genius Maiko Takeda is back, and she has brought her ingenuity with her. Takeda’s latest collection was revealed at the Royal College of Art Fashion Show and is suitably titled Atmospheric Reentry. One thing is certain, whoever has the privilege of wearing her ornate headdresses will feel out of this world!
Each piece of the intricate line shrouds the wearer in a cloud of colour and geometric mystery. If you are lucky enough to try one of these on, you might lose yourself in a dreamlike state of awe for Takeda’s craftsmanship. Each piece is outfitted with icy blues, fiery reds and oranges, and deep black accented with crystalline white. The colours mesh beautifully in the spiked clouds of an other-worldly design.
Takeda’s bold fashion-forward vision is unparalleled by anything on the market right now. The pointed tips give the appearance of rays of light exploding from the epicentre, aka you. These colourful emissions are the direct reflection of the person wearing them, who is exuding the result of an unearthly experience.
Takeda revealed her inspiration behind the hats to Dezeen saying, ‘While hats are commonly made with substantial and durable materials such as fabric, felt, plastic, leather so on, instead I wanted to create ethereal experiences for the wearer through the pieces.’
Takeda has achieved her goal, these large intricate designs will make you feel like an outer being floating with carefree confidence in the cosmos. If you happen to snag a one-of-a-kind piece of this collection, beware that your high fashion star garment will be the talk of the night.
