The extremely talented Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino released the official music video for ‘Heartbeat’, a track off his album Camp, released November 2011
Glover has taken the American pop-culture scene by storm. Originally a comedian, Glover performed stand-up for Comedy Central, wrote for the popular television series 30 Rock and performed with the youtube comedy troupe sensation ‘Derrick Comedy’. The actor, comedian, writer and musician also famously performed on NBC’s comedy series, ‘Community’ where he played community college student Troy Barnes. Donald Glover is currently signed to Glassnote Records under the stage name ‘Childish Gambino’
Donald Glover chose the name Childish Gambino by using a Wu-Tang Clan name generator. His most recent album Camp debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 with 52,000 copies sold in its first week released. As of January 2012, the album has sold 104,000 copies in the United States. ‘Heartbeat’ is a deeply personal track with alternative hip-hop flows typical of Childish Gambino but also incorporates heavy electronic sounds.
The ‘Heartbeat’ video departs from Childish Gambino’s more in your face, simplistic structure as he performed in the 2011 ‘Freaks and Geeks’ official music video (view below). Gambino has proved his talent as a rapper, comedian, actor and writer. He does not hold back and speaks his mind. Childish Gambino’s sound, style and swag are refreshing for the all too corporate, commoditized, superficial rap industry. Many of Childish Gambino’s tracks are available for free download on his Soundcloud page.
