It took photographer Iwan Susanto from Tangerang, Indonesia, ten minutes each to take pictures of what look like extraterrestrial visitors posing for a portrait. They are — you might have guessed — in fact extreme close-ups of insects who are just five centimetres away from the lens. The colourful images are spectacular examples of macro photography, a technique where the subject appears to be larger than it is in reality.
