Married couple – Nicholas and Angela from Kansas City – are obsessed with robots. They welcomed their first robot friend after piecing together parts they found in their favorite antique stores. Photographers Brandon Hill and Chad Jackson started a project so that the Nerd Bots could find their own special place in history.
Nowadays, Nicholas and Angela’s collection has been expanded with many nerdy robots aka Nerd Bots. If you also fell in love with the charming bots, you can adopt a custom-made one. The geekier they look, the better.
Nerd Bots are fantastic, whimsical, and down right charming so I couldn’t resist the opportunity to work with our friends to create a few conceptual photo pieces in what is now going to be an ongoing photography series with Nerd Bots. (photographer Chad Jackson)
The two photographers needed several hours of adjusting, tweaking and shooting before they came up with the final piece that will start this new conceptual series. You see their talent plopped down in the middle of the studio floor amidst a heap of spare parts as the Nerd Bot searches frenetically through the pile looking for just the right piece.
After an afternoon of trying to form the perfect Nerd Bot pile, Hill and Jackson shot the photographs without strobes, choosing rather to use hot lights to create the right environment of the ‘Nerd Bot workshop’, without taking it away from the main action. They used fishing wire to hang the bots’ arms and then added additional bot pieces in post-production.
Each bot had it’s own personality and they have made so many it was hard to chose. (photographer Brandon Hill)
