The Maloof Money Cup will return to Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province for its second edition from 28 – 30 September 2012. We have a massive hamper worth R3000 to give away to one lucky reader… Simply read on to find out how to enter this awesome competition!
Considered to be the world’s premier showcase for professional and amateur skateboarding, the Maloof Money Cup SA world skateboarding championships is also tagged as the richest event of its kind with a prize purse of R4, 000, 000! The three-day event will be hosted at the Kimberley Maloof Skate Plaza in Kimberly and will feature some of the top skateboarders from around the world on the magnificent street and vert sections of the world class state-of-the-art course. Top professional contenders as well as South African amateurs will battle it out for the word champion titles in the various disciplines.
According to Joe Maloof, founder of Maloof Skateboarding and owner of The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, they are delighted to return to South Africa. Maloof says: ‘We were absolutely overwhelmed by the positive reaction from the South African public during the first event in 2011. The government and people of the Northern Cape Province embraced the concept and we were amazed by the incredible hospitality. We were especially proud of the reception we received from the local skateboarding community and the wonderful natural talent and enthusiasm expressed by skateboarders across the country.
This year’s world championships, the biggest skateboarding contest in the world, promises to be bigger and better than ever and we can’t wait to return to sunny South Africa. (Joe Maloof)
The 2011 Maloof Money Cup was the first time that the event left American shores and proved to be the biggest sporting event ever to be hosted in the Northern Cape. The capital of Kimberley was literally invaded as thousands of spectators and skateboarding enthusiasts descended on the town for the contest. The event made a significant economic impact on the regional economy as accommodation facilities, restaurants and tourism attractions were filled to capacity.
Following the unprecedented success of the inaugural event, Maloof Skateboarding this week announced that they have extended their contract with the Northern Cape as hosts of this exhilarating event to five years. This will arguably transform Kimberley into the skateboarding capital of the world as professional skateboarders have proclaimed the state-of-the-art skate plaza as the best of its kind in the world.
Hosting the Maloof Money Cup formed a crucial part in the repositioning of the Northern Cape Province as the prime destination for adventure and extreme sports in SA, but also gave the provincial government the opportunity to engage with the youth of the province. John Block, of the Northern Cape MEC for Finance, Economic Development & Tourism, says:
The 2011 Maloof Money Cup was undoubtedly a huge success in terms of global media exposure and economic benefit to the province, but the impact we had on the youth of our province was unbelievable. The Maloof Money Cup presented to them a lifestyle alternative that is accessible and affordable and could be the catalyst for huge socio-economic changes.
During the run-up to the event, the provincial government will continue to take the message of skateboarding to the streets with the Skateboarding for Hope community outreach programme. In addition, skateboarding road tours and public qualifier events will be hosted across the country to identify budding skateboarding talent. Three Pro Tours will feature some of the top riders in the world and will help in creating awareness of skateboarding as one of the fastest growing sports in the world amongst local communities.

I should win this prize because I’m a complete extreme sports junkie and when it comes to an event like the Maloof Money Cup, you can not compare it! Especially since it’s run by the guys who do Ultimate-X (old school productions). The Maloof money cup is to me what The PGA tour is to golfers! winning this hamper would just make me that much more stoked!

Hmmm… Why should I win? Well I’ve been a skate boarder for the past 8 years now and I’ve attended numerous skate events around my area, but NEVER have a won or received anything greater than a single DC or Monster sticker :/ In these tough financial times my poor deck is creeping towards retirement after it’s 2nd year of doing it’s rounds in the concrete jungle of Jozi. Man! Can’t you guys chuck in a ticket to go see the event? Nothing beats watching a skater land a trick in real life, where as I can only do it on Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland X.x. I’m sorry, you guys are offering us a finger and I want the whole arm! I’m a big FAN!!! Can you blame me?

I think I should win this hamper because its NEARLY as awesome as I am. And finding things that are THAT awesome is really hard in this day and age of dullness. With this setup from Maloof, I will be skateably invincible! With the bobble head, I’ll be nodding at haters like there’s no tomorrow, with my monster energy I’ll be hitting up tricks till the early morn without a wink of sleep needed, decked out in my Maloof gear I’ll be the envy of all my skate mates, and with my sexy stickers I’ll create a masterpiece that is Maloof! This and many more reasons will convince you that I am ready to become a jedi Maloof knight and be granted my lightsaber of awesomeness and all its bits and bobs that come with it. And besides, I have been a skater for 20+ years. Its time the universe gave back to me!

Simply because having the hipster winning would oooobviously be a mainstream type thing. Lol! On the real though, this hamper is too hot to pass up. Looking fly while you skate, ppsshh epic. Doesn’t really get better than that. As a kitten I used to skate…but come on, the dogtown life never really leaves you. I should win because rocking them threads I’d represent Maloof everywhere I step with the energy drink keepin’ me vibing non-stop. LOUD and PROUD. Could do with a board too though :-D. Getting me back in the game properly and rolling in style ya heard. :-).

Well I was at the Maloof last year. Yes we missioned up in convoy. 12 hours on your butt is definitely worth every sec when you get see the guy you always choose while playing Tony Hawk skater pull off moves that only your thumbs and index fingers know how to do. Needless to say I’d rep hard when I go back to dusty old Kimberley. These guys in this case the “Hipsters” ^^ here, none actually mention going to the Maloof or have been to the Maloof. Or being there last year and seeing first tailgrab 900 ever landed on a mini-mega ramp, never mind the first 900 on African soil.
We missioning again this year. So a new board to roll on would be much appreciated.

I would win the prize, cause I’ve been skate sine day one and this hipster right next to me is just doing to rebel against him mom, cause we all know his got issues! Really though I’ve been doing this and to me skating is more than just looking cool holding a board for the honeys to see, but this is a way to express myself. Whenever I feel trapped in this contrite jungle we call the city, i just get on my board pay some tunes in my earphones and the city becomes my playground. What Can I say I’m just F R E E! On the real I want this so bad!!!
